GROSSETÊTE, Françoise The High-Level Contact Group for Relations with the Turkish-Cypriot Community in the northern part of the island, chaired by Françoise Grossetête MEP, Vice-Chairwoman of the EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament, will meet in Cyprus on 2 and 3 June 2006.
The Members of the Contact Group will hold talks with Ambassadors from different EU Member States including current and future EU Presidencies. The group will meet the Leader of the Turkish-Cypriot Community, Mr Mehmet Ali Talat, representatives of the Turkish-Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the Greek-Cypriot Chamber of
Commerce, as well as a wide range of NGOs of the Turkish-Cypriot Community. The group will also meet Mr Møller, representative of the UNSG on the island, and will discuss new initiatives to hold bi-communal talks as well as any future steps to reach a negotiated settlement. The group will receive a briefing about the many EU-funded projects in the north implemented by the UNDP and will be shown projects onsite in Famagusta/Gazimagusa. In the context of this visit, the group will also enter the fenced-off area of Varosha."
