"Turkish FM Gul: No Surrender, Only Prestige in EU Membership
ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul spoke out against criticisms that 'Turkey surrendered to the European Union,' and said Turkey has in fact become 'an exemplary country that provides stability to its neighborhood.'
Minister Gul, speaking at the 36th congress of 'Turk Ocaklari' (Turkish Hearths) in Ankara yesterday emphasized the belief that, 'It is always us who gives in to the EU, do not get anything back,' is wrong and asked all those present:
'Did we experience any economic or political loss? We are definitely not surrendering in our relationships with the EU; we did not give anything that we were not sure of.'"
