In recent weeks there have been signs of a growing mood of nationalism in the Turkish Government. Just over ten days ago Prime Minister Erdogan warned that Turkey would not discuss certain educational and cultural matters as a part of its accession process. He then risked opening up a new rift with Greece by rebuking Athens over its treatment of the Muslim minority in Western Thrace -- this less than two years after he praised Greece on the very same issue. Meanwhile, his administration continues to insist that it will not open its ports to Cypriots ships and aircraft, despite repeated demands to do so by EU officials."
