Conference opens floor to proponents of ‘genocide,’ although they’re largely absent

Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül, in a message for a rare gathering to discuss Armenian allegations of genocide at the hands of the late Ottoman Empire, declared with confidence that Turkey was at peace with its past. He also praised the initiative as a step in the direction of improving academic freedoms in European Union-aspirant Turkey."
