"13,000 refugees to be given title deeds

THE government yesterday announced that 13,000 refugees would receive title deeds to their houses in the south as part of a broader plan to resolve the plight of persons displaced by the events of 1974.
Drafted by the Interior Ministry, the ambitious project was given the go-ahead during an extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet.
Due to the political ramifications, the plan does not touch on the status of properties originally belonging to Turkish Cypriots. Their Greek Cypriot occupants (some 5,000 families) will either continue to live in these houses or else be given state land of approximately 2,000 donums."
