In the most south-easterly corner of Turkey, a slow-burn separatist conflict has rekindled. But mainstream Turkish media have been slow to report the fighting.
Half way up the main staircase in the governor’s office in Hakkari, there is a poster—probably left over from the Cold War—advising what to do in case of a nuclear attack. It expresses the anxiety of officialdom in this most remote of Turkey’s Kurdish provinces.
