According to recent reports, Turkey has seen a sharp increase in domestic violence against woman. The Ministry of Justice says the number of women killed over the last seven years has risen sharply.
Ayse Pasali was a young Turkish woman stabbed to death 11 times by her ex-husband on an open city street.
Her repeated cries for state protection could not save her life. Nor could the state save the lives of several other young girls. This has sparked mass demonstrations across the country calling for the government to do more.
