Turkey launched a military offensive in the predominantly Kurdish southeast in retaliation for an ambush by Kurdish separatists that killed 13 soldiers on Thursday. Army helicopters were joined by civilian village guards in the operation, the semiofficial Anatolian News Agency reported."
