"Crisis Threat Triggers Debate in Turkey

The threat of a further economic crisis in the U.S. and Europe has triggered a lively domestic debate in fast growing Turkey.
A leading member of the ruling Justice and Development Party recently warned Turks to “hold on to what you’ve got. Don’t spend too much,” because another global economic crisis was coming.
Since then, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the head of Turkey’s central bank have pushed back. Mr. Erdogan said Wednesday that any crisis “would not even touch Turkey.” On Thursday, Central Bank Governor Erdem Basci told Turks to “enjoy spending.”"
