ANKARA, Turkey - A Turkish court has begun hearing a case against 39 former military conscripts charged with killing 12 inmates during a prison riot a decade ago.
The defendants were serving in a paramilitary force that transferred political prisoners in 2000 from Istanbul's Bayrampasa prison to new, maximum-security prisons to stop frequent rioting."
