"Germany: After Merkel’s Comments,president Makes Trip to Turkey

On the heels of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s comments about the failure of multiculturalism in Germany, President Christian Wulff traveled to Ankara, Turkey, on Monday for the first official visit in 10 years by a German president. Mr. Wulff, left — who has a history of reaching out to Germany’s four million Muslims, most of whom are Turkish — will address Turkey’s Parliament, where he is expected to focus on economic, cultural and religious issues. He also will visit Islamic sites and will hold talks with the Turkish official in charge of religious affairs. On Saturday, Mrs. Merkel told the annual meeting of young Christian Democrats that multiculturalism in Germany had “utterly failed.” "
