The late British author Ann Bridge never ceases to amaze me with her imaginative storytelling.
In The Dark Moment, 1952, she takes readers back to the Turkish rebellion against the Greeks in 1921-22. The revolution was led by the charismatic Gen. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
The fast-paced narrative is described through the eyes of two young wives, Feride and Nilufer, Muslims who quietly leave their homes and journey hundreds of miles from Constantinople to Ankara to join their husbands, who are revolutionaries and close associates of Kemal. The men have rented houses for their wives."
