"The language of women in the Kurdish movement
ORAL ÇALIŞLAR
The closure of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, or DTP, and the arrests of Kurdish political leaders have seemed to annoy Kurdish political representatives.
Diyarbakır Mayor Osman Baydemir and the deputies of the Peace and Democracy Party, or BDP, used obscenities in Parliament. Their remarks created tension among parliamentarians who want to lynch Kurdish officials. As usual, judicial measures came into force.
There is no excuse for cursing. However, our political culture and tradition of anger are familiar with obscene language. Men love to swear. So, even with Kurds, a man is a man, and he curses.
It is a fact that in the Kurdish movement, women are coming to the fore and becoming more influential even though it was a male-oriented movement at first. In Parliament, the DTP-BDP group has the highest percentage of women deputies among all political parties. Eight of the 21 deputies of the disbanded DTP were women; in other words, we are talking about over 30 percent here. Similarly, 14 of its mayors are women too."
