The tough-worded military statement issued by General Staff headquarters on Monday should be regarded as the end of a meaningless controversy that should never have started. If we read too much into this statement and continue fanning tension, our country will lose badly.
This is not the time to pour fuel on a fire that was about to die out. The military had the upper hand in Turkey for several decades, thanks to the incompetence of our own politicians, and dominated the social and political life of the country so much that our system was called �a military democracy.�"
