"Annan assures Talat over Cyprus peace talks

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in a letter late last week assured Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat that his Feb. 28 meeting with the Greek Cypriot leader in no way brings changes to the parameters of Cyprus peace talks.
In the letter Annan stressed that a joint statement by him and Greek Cypriot leader Tasssos Papadopoulos was just information for the press on the issues they discussed and wasn't aimed at putting forward a nelyw agreed ground for peace talks about the didvided island, diplomats told The New Anatolian on Friday."
