Deutsche Bank, acting on the back of a weak tourism outlook, revised its projections for Turkey's current account deficit to $26.4 billion, or 6.8 percent of gross domestic product.
February tourism numbers showed yet another disappointing month regarding the current account, said Tevfik Aksoy, Deutsche Bank's top economist on Turkey. Most likely the avian influenza and arguably the concerns surrounding the religiously controversial cartoons on Prophet Mohammed had an impact on tourism, he said."
