In Islam, using water to cleanse one’s self had to be running water. This idea derives from the Koranic belief that in Paradise there would be rivers of water and, of course, for someone coming from the dry desert areas of the Arabian peninsula, this would be bliss [HH] Although there are supposed to have been some 400 fountains in Istanbul during Ottoman times, today it is difficult to understand where they are because they have been destroyed, ruined or serve as the garbage bin for the street on which they are located "
