Teachers should act in line with fundamental principles of the Turkish Republic and particularly secularism, says Council of State
The Council of State ruled yesterday that a teacher who wears a headscarf on her way to school should not serve as principal of a nursery school.
In a case about the appointment of a teacher wearing a headscarf as the principal of a nursery school in 2001, the Council of State ruled against the teacher, stating, �Under the Constitution, an education environment based upon modern principles cannot be one in which the principle of is neglected secularism.� "
