At a conference held in Washington on Tuesday, which was sponsored by the United States Institute of Peace, the future of the northern oil-rich Iraqi city of Kirkuk came under focus. The city's population is made up of Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen, of which the latter it has been said, were marginalized in the elections held earlier this year as many Kurds moved back solely to vote. A solution to satisfy all three ethnic groups needs to be found for lasting peace in the region, the main aim of the conference was to discuss this matter."
