Turkey and the European Union are once again approaching a critical milestone in their more-than-bumpy relationship. Oct. 3 is the magical date that is now being awaited with full tension and drama, as has become almost customary for such dates. Whether Turkey will start accession negotiations with Brussels on Oct. 3 and whether the recognition of the Greek Cypriot administration will become a precondition for accession negotiations to start remains to be seen. Turkey's body politique, local and foreign investors as well as political observers are absorbed with this date. It appears we are in for a Dec. 17-type of last-minute intra-European and Turkish-European �pulling of strings� scenario."
