Starting from 1993, the Turkish Cypriots were forced to wage a struggle on two fronts.
On one front, with the help of some Turkish Foreign Ministry people, the struggle continued to win Greek Cypriot and international acknowledgement of the �realities on the ground� -- that is, the existence of two separate peoples and two separate democratic entities on the island and the need to have a �just and lasting settlement� between these two on the basis of �political equality� and �partnership in sovereignty.�"
