How airlines lose a million suitcases
By Stephen Hayward Consumer Correspondent
BRITISH airlines are among the worst in Europe for losing passengers' bags, according to a new survey.
More than one million pieces of luggage - equivalent to 12 bags for every 1,000 passengers - were lost by European airlines between April and June this year.
British Airways and BMI lost more bags than the national airlines of countries like Hungary, Romania and Turkey.
BA was the third worst offender, losing 179,683 suitcases - or 15.6 for every 1,000 passengers. BMI lost 13.2 bags per 1,000. The Dutch national airline KLM produced the worst recorded performance, losing 17 bags per 1,000 passengers. Turkish Airlines had the best figures, mishandling just one bag per 1,000."
