Peace in Syria is the victim
TURKEY’S President Recep Tayyip Ordogan was a happy man after a second general election in less than six months restored the parliamentary majority to his Justice and Development Party (AKP). He had other good news too. Germany’s powerful Chancellor Angela Merkel had come calling to seek his assistance in stopping the flow of Syrian refugees into the European Union with inducements of monetary support and some help in keeping Ankara’s hopes of EU membership alive. The deal on refugees has now been signed, to what effect remains to be seen.
