US rules out buffer zone on Turkey-Syria border due to cost

The US has ruled out support for creating a buffer zone in northern Syria amid renewed fighting just across Turkey’s southern border.
A US State Department official on Tuesday said the challenges facing Turkey on its southern borders are understandable but neither Washington nor a US-led coalition which is conducting air strikes on Daesh targets would currently be supportive of such a buffer zone.
