(ANSAmed) - ISTANBUL, OCTOBER 23 - The Turkish government is preparing to initiate a year-old plan to allow private companies to operate in the railway transportation sector next year, daily Today's Zaman online reports quoting a senior official as saying on Thursday. Turkey's transportation, maritime affairs and communications minister, Lutfi Elvan, said on Thursday in Istanbul that the government plans to open tenders for the privatization of state railways, a step which would end the long government monopoly on railway freight and passenger transport in Turkey.
