Senior Twitter Executives To Meet With BTK Officials In Istanbul

Senior officials of Twitter, one of the most popular social media networks worldwide, and top officials of the Turkey's Internet watchdog, the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), will hold a meeting in Istanbul on Monday. The main issue to be discussed in the meeting will be a local office planned to be opened by Twitter in Turkey, according to reports in Turkish media outlets on Sunday. According to the reports, the BTK officials will demand that Twitter start to do research and development (R&D) activities in Turkey. This meeting will be the third meeting held between BTK officials and Twitter executives this year. In the previous two meetings, Twitter did not accept the BTK's proposal to open an office in Turkey. The first meeting took place between BTK President Tayfun Acarer and an accompanying delegation and Twitter's vice president and global public policy head, Colin Crowell, on April 14, 2014 in Ankara.
