Turkish carpet offered magical, memorable ride

This is the story of a Turkish carpet and the power of serendipity. For my trip to Istanbul in January, I traveled with a single piece of carry-on luggage. This, I told my friend Chomsri, would make it easier to resist the seasoned carpet salesmen who awaited us in the Grand Bazaar. My resolve would be tested daily in this city where carpets beckon at every turn.
