Tourists to Turkey Get More Than They Bargained For

When Holger (he declines to give his last name out of concern for his privacy) and his four co-workers landed in Istanbul for a quick vacation from Germany last week, they had no idea the view from their hotel in Taksim Square would include a front-row seat to the biggest protests against the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a decade. And they definitely didn’t pack for tear gas.
