Turkey's 'historic' broadcast of Holocaust film Shoah

ISTANBUL // The director of a nine-hour documentary about the Holocaust called the decision by Turkey’s state-run television station to broadcast it last night historic.
“This is proof of intelligence and courage,” Claude Lanzmann, a French filmmaker and director of Shoah, told The National by telephone from Paris yesterday. “It is an historical event. Turkey is the first [mainly] Muslim country to show a film like this.”
Turkey is majority Muslim but officially secular.
