There is one bid we tend to hear about regularly. That is Turkey’s bid to form part of the European Union. The bid made by Turkey to join the European Union a few years ago is arguably one of the most controversial ever to be handled, with accession talks commencing formally way back in 2005. A significant number of EU states have showed reluctance to allow Turkey into Europe, with France and Austria coming to mind immediately. There has been a great deal of contradictory information regarding this issue, due to the fact that they have been dogged by an array of domestic as well as external problems."
