Don’t ignore the unavoidable

"Don’t ignore the unavoidable
By Alkan Chaglar

TURKISH CYPRIOT leader Mehmet Ali Talat was recently quoted by the Anatolian News Agency as claiming that Cypriots do not form one nation. He added that Cypriots are not one people but two.

“If there was one nation in Cyprus, there would not be any necessity for the political equality of two communities and for a federation. Some suggestions resemble such an approach, which disturbs us”, Talat said. He emphasised that a solution will be based on two peoples and appeared to focus more on what will be achieved on the powers of the constituent state – ignoring those of the federal state."
