The fate of young people finishing Turkish high school is on my mind these days as their journey into adulthood begins. As a new mother to an American-Turkish son, my eyes gravitate to the pudgy faces of young men in particular. The state will soon call on them to serve in the military. Meanwhile, the American-led war on terror and the ongoing conflict in Turkey's east have created an insidious, threatening climate here. "
