"GAP plants handle bulk of Turkish electricity Seven hydroelectric power plants built as part of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) -- Turkey’s largest irrigation and energy project -- generated a total 274.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electric power worth $16.5 billion. According to GAP Development Administration data, the construction of eight power plants was completed by the end of 2006, and electricity generation has begun at seven of them."
