"The Battle of Turkey: Islamofascism v. The West
The battle between secularism and Islamism in Turkey has escalated. The secular Supreme Court has overturned on procedural grounds the parliament's election of a crypto-Islamist as Turkey's president.
Why is this important? Turkey's president has the power to appoint generals and judges. Since the military and judiciary are bulwarks of Turkey's secular system, an Islamist president could use his power to eliminate opposition to political Islam.
In response, the 'moderate' Islamist party has called for early elections. The issue will now go to Turkey's voters. We should all wish that the secularists win this battle, because keeping Islam out of the realm of politics is the whole essence of the battle we should be fighting in the Middle East."
