"Erdogan urges Sarkozy to drop 'prejudices'
ISTANBUL: Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey said Tuesday that he hoped that the new French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, would drop his opposition to Turkey joining the European Union, saying the leader's stance came from prejudice.
Sarkozy, the son of a Hungarian immigrant, has opposed Turkey's membership and even made it a campaign issue in the election he won this month. He argues that Turkey is not culturally or geographically part of Europe."
