"‘We have a right to our hellim’
By Simon Bahceli
TURKISH Cypriot hellim/halloumi makers are cheesed off at being left out of a Greek Cypriot attempt to patent one the island’s national foods and have written to Agriculture Minister Fotis Fotiou and the EU’s Olli Rehn to protest at the one-sided move.
“This is completely unfair,” Chamber of Industry head Salih Tunar told the Sunday Mail this week. “They think they can forget about the fact that Turkish Cypriots have also made hellim for hundreds of years because they are in the EU and we are not,” he added.
