The official unemployment rate excluding the agricultural sector which was 10.3 percent in Turkey in 2005 approached 14 percent in the cities. The unemployment rate excluding the agricultural sector exceeded 25 percent in some regions, while there were regions where this rate was 10 percent. According to a research made by the economist Mustafa Sönmez, out of every four people in Çukurova and Central Anatolia, one is unemployed."
