Turkish women were granted the right to vote in general elections and be elected to Parliament on Dec. 5, 1934.
After the declaration of the republic in 1923, important steps were taken to grant women their political rights. On April 3, 1930, the new municipal law enabling women to run in municipal elections both as voters and candidates was passed, followed three years later by a measure giving them the right to vote and be elected to village councils."
