ANKARA: The European Union is about to make a decision that has the ominous potential to redefine the course of Turkey- EU relations. But its impact will also be felt far beyond our borders.
We Turks understand the difficulties Europe is facing in crafting a new vision for its future. We are also aware of the anxieties of the European public concerning future expansion. I have repeatedly said that Turkey's accession is a long process and that the European Union and Turkey will ultimately decide its outcome together. After all, some member states will submit the issue to referendums and seek the consent of the public."
