10-year-old girl sings Livaneli’s song in Italian competition and wins third place

A song titled 'Rüzgara Yazacağım' (Lo Serivero Nel Vento in Italian or I Will Write on the Wind in English) by internationally acclaimed Turkish singer/composer/author and filmmaker Zülfü Livaneli competed and won third place at the Zecchino d'Oro international children's song festival, an annual event held since 1959 in Italy. The piece was sung by 10-year-old Deniz Ünel, whose father is Turkish and mother Italian, accompanied by the Piccolo Coro Mariele Ventre children's choir, founded by Italian singer Maria Rachele Ventre.

The piece, two quadrants of which is Turkish, focuses on the themes of peace and brotherhood.

The competition was held in Bologna on Nov. 21-25 and Italian state television Rai Uno, one of the most watched television channels of Italy, broadcast the event live.

Zecchino d'Oro is an international children's song festival that has taken place annually since 1959. The festival took on an international perspective in 1976, from which time the competition has included seven Italian and seven foreign songs sung by children and then voted for by a children's jury. The winning song is rewarded with the Zecchino d'Oro (Golden Coin) award.
