"European obesity summit in Istanbul
Health ministers from 50 countries are attending a summit in Istanbul today to discuss measures for combating obesity. The meeting has been organised by the WHO whose latest analysis warns that excess weight is no longer just a threat to public health in Europe but also to the national economies. The ministers agreed on a joint strategy to combat the European obesity epidemic. In the Nordic countries the WHO Charter on Counteracting Obesity will act as a useful supplement to the Nordic Council of Ministers' action plan for improving the quality of life."
