Istanbul, Turkey -- The language spoken on the street here is Asian, not Arabic.
The people themselves -- their language aside -- bear more resemblance to Italians than Iraqis or Lebanese. The Turks are a completely different tribe grown into a modern nation.
A man passing the window as I write marches not walks in a near-military cadence; others strut, stamp and at times seemingly dance. The energy is fantastic. Women move through life as if they have something to get done. And they do."
