"Germany: Turkey an important partner for Europe

German President Horst Koehler praised the Turks in what he described as a proud and strong nation and one that is an important partner for Europe.
In reference to Turkey's bid to join the European Union, Koehler said: �Open-ended [European Union accession] negotiations with Turkey are under way. We'll see what'll happen in the end, but in political debates we should be careful that the Turks don't feel they're being neglected.' The German president also said it was a part of the EU's understanding of law to abide by agreements, apparently referring to the EU's promises to Turkey."
