A bold feminist at the Turkish embassy, Etiz skillfully balances work and family, history and the future.

The Deputy Chief of Mission for the Embassy of Turkey in Ukraine, Ceren (pronounced “JAY-ren”) Yazgan Etiz, quickly pronounces as we sit down to lunch on the terrace at Limoncello Fusion restaurant in Pechersk that she’s a feminist. “Listen with care,” she says half in jest.
Yazgan Etiz takes a lot of comfort in the title of feminist everywhere she goes, but especially at her embassy, which, with the exception of the ambassador, is staffed only with women."
