"Enlargement Debates In The European Parliament: The Brok Report
(Murat Sogangoz-JTW/Ankara) On March 15, the European Parliament discussed enlargement policies of the European Union upon the draft report of Elmar Brok, Head of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Parliament. Brok drafted a report on “2005 Enlargement Strategy Paper” that proposes 33 amendments on the paper. The report is significant for EU enlargement since it states that the European Union should make the content of the absorption capacity clear. It has been adopted today, on 16 March. Nowadays enlargement is a widely discussed issue in the EU institutions, some favoring deepening rather than further enlargement while some favoring further enlargement seeing it as a successful stabilizer towards the countries it has been directed. "
