"EU reassures consumers after bird flu deaths in Turkey
05/01/2006
The European Commission sought to reassure consumers on Thursday following two deaths in Turkey from bird flu, the first known fatalities outside eastern Asia.
A spokesman said that the European Union's executive wing was 'closely monitoring the situation, especially from the epidemiological point of view.'
'The complete ban on any imports from Turkey of live birds and poultry and products from poultry, which was adopted in October last year, remains in place,' said the spokesman, Michael Mann."
