"EAC gives power to the north after explosion
By Elias Hazou
THE ELECTRICITY Authority (EAC) last night scrambled to deliver electricity to the north after a major power outage in the town of Kyrenia and neighbouring areas.
The unusual plea for help from the north was conveyed to authorities in the south via the UN. It appears that a technical glitch at the power plant led to an explosion.
The EAC immediately responded after getting clearance from the government, dispatching crews to two power stations to see whether the power grids on the two sides of the divide could be connected.
The south ceased providing electricity to areas in the north back in 1996, so it was unclear whether technicians would be able to feed power to the occupied areas again."
