Thanks to William Shakespeare, Giuseppe Verdi and librettist Arrigo Boito, the sad and sadistic life of the Moorish Venetian general, Othello, who was appointed governor of the island of Cyprus just before the Ottoman Turks took over in the 16th century, has been immortalized."
