"EU partnership idea is immoral, says Turkish minister

ANKARA: Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul yesterday dismissed the idea of a “partnership” between the European Union and Turkey as “illegitimate and immoral”.
He said that Turkey would not accept anything less than full membership in the 25-nation union.
Suggestions have come from some EU quarters, particularly in France and from the German centre-right opposition, that Turkey should accept a partnership somewhat short of full membership.
“I find such an offer illegitimate and immoral,” Gul said in an interview with the Turkish Daily News. “This nullifies our common effort of half a century. It also has the potential to handicap the future of our relations.”"
