Ancient countries like Babylonia, Media and Assyria are identified with the practice although in those times one would have talked about religion and religious observances Ottoman Turkish encyclopedia writer Katip �elebi in the 17th century considered magic to be part of the physical sciences and divided it into 14 different categories ranging from divination and sorcery to charms and medicinal remedies "
